    Ambassador Attends Mihaly Kovats Memorial Ceremony

    Ambassador Kounalakis attended a memorial ceremony honoring Mihaly Kovats on May 11 in Karcag. Colonel Kovats, a native of Karcag, left Hungary to fight in the American Revolutionary War.

    Deputy Assistant Secretary Thomas Melia in Budapest

    Deputy Assistant Secretary Melia visited Hungary from May 3-5. Mr. Melia met with government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Tibor Navracsics, Deputy Foreign Minister Zsolt Nemeth and Annamaria Szalai, the President of the National Media Authority, for discussions on current developments in Hungary and issues related to the U.S.-Hungarian bilateral relationship.

    Former San Francisco Mayor Visits Hungary

    On May 4, former San Francisco Mayor Art Agnos visited Hungary and discussed with Hungarian NGOs strategies for combating homelessness and assisting low income families and the urban poor.

    Ambassador Kounalakis Awards Harman/Becker Automotive Systems and Brunswick Hungary for Community Programs

    On April 24, Ambassador Kounalakis presented Active Citizenship awards to Harman/Becker Automotive Systems and Brunswick Hungary for their support of community programs in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. With these awards, the U.S. Embassy is recognizing the importance of community social responsibility programs of American companies in Hungary.
