Sociology Expert Dr. Hollander Analyzes Anti-Americanism
May 8, 2009
Dr. Paul Hollander visited Budapest as the Embassy’s Distinguished Speaker and talked to university students, politicians, political researchers, and the print and electronic media about the sources of anti-Americanism.
He shared his predictions regarding the future of this phenomenon and the impact on it of the new Obama foreign policy. Prof. Hollander noted that modernity and the values attributed to it and the by-products of capitalism and globalization are the main sources of anti-Americanism in the world, and he doubted anti-American sentiments will diminish much in the long run due to America’s large global presence and openness.
