ASK THE CONSUL

October 2004

What is the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF) and how is it different from the old form? Why should I use the electronic form?

The Electronic Visa Application Form is a convenient online form that allows applicants to quickly and accurately fill out their applications. Applicants should fill out the form on-line, print the completed application and bring it to the Embassy for their interview. The old visa application forms were handwritten and sometimes difficult to read. It also takes longer for our visa employees to enter the data into our computers once the applicant arrives for their interview.

Applicants should use the Electronic Visa Application Form because it will make their wait at the Embassy much shorter. The EVAF will also reduce the chance that some of the applicant's information is misread during the interview. You can find the EVAF at http://evisaforms.state.gov/.
