On October 9, 2007, Ambassador Foley opened a photo exhibition titled "
Revealing Chicago" at Budapest's Millenaris Park. The exhibition introduced 62 photographs by the artist
Terry Evans depicting the city's dimensions and complexity and how residents of the "Windy City" go about their daily lives.
Ambassador Foley highlighted the artist's desire to show the results of Chicago's urban planning, its efforts to improve the economy and the quality of life of its inhabitants, and to inspire our concern for preserving a beautiful place to live for future generations.
Ambassador Foley also noted that this is second of the Embassy's three contributions to Budapest's Month of Architecture. The third contribution demonstrates the Embassy's desire to share not only pictures but practical suggestions for environment-friendly housing. This is Embassy's co-sponsorship of a symposium on October 17 entitled "Architecture Now: an International Symposium on Architecture and Renewable Energy Resources." At this event, an American architect will share his plans for rebuilding a neighborhood in New Orleans using materials and designs that reduce the carbon emissions and save residents an estimated $2,500 in energy costs per year. Together with the Union of Architects, the Embassy is pleased to support this event, which we hope will offer useful alternatives for Hungary's architects and builders to consider.
