Chargé Jeff Levine and ten other American and Hungarian Embassy officials participated in a blood drive event to honor the International Roma Day on April 8, 2009. Organized by the Budapest Gypsy Self-Government and the Hungarian Red Cross, the event aimed to promote cooperation, social responsibility, and helping others. The blood drive, which took place on a boat docked on the shores of the Danube River, attracted a strong turnout of donors including local celebrities and dignitaries.

The Embassy participated in several events in early April to mark the International Roma Day and to call attention to the many positive contributions of Roma in Hungary.
