Serenades and Celebration: Chargé Delivers Tolerance Message at Gypsy Festival
Chargé d’Affaires Jeffrey Levine paid a visit to the annual "Gypsy Magic" music festival in Budapest on May 30, 2009 to celebrate the Gypsy community’s contributions to Hungarian culture and to reiterate the Embassy’s commitment to tolerance and diversity. He also took the opportunity to meet with several prominent Roma intellectuals to express the Embassy’s support for a comprehensive strategy to integrate Roma into the mainstream of Hungarian society.
The "Gypsy Magic" Festival is hosted each year by the Cultural and Sport Public Benefit Company of Budapest’s 8th district and attracts a large number of people who come to enjoy musical performances by Gypsy performers from around the country.
