Hungarian Roma NGO Recognizes U.S. Embassy Employee

On June 26, Chargé d’Affaires Jeffrey Levine paid a visit to the annual award ceremony of the “Together for Gyöngyös” Roma-Hungarian Association in Mátraháza. This year, the Association presented Embassy Political Specialist Linda Mézes with their “For a Better Future” Award, which recognizes those non-Romas who contribute to the advancement of Roma integration.

Head of the Association Mr. Zsolt Lakatos emphasized in his speech the importance of individual attitudes and actions, which can make a significant difference in the coexistence of the Roma and non-Roma communities in Hungary. In his speech, Chargé Levine reinforced the Embassy’s strong desire to continue working with the community to improve the lives of the Roma people. Previous recipients of the award include former Ambassador April H. Foley.
