The American Corner at the Corvinus University of Budapest commemorated the Fourth of July with a photo exhibit opening at the Ráday Könyvesház art gallery. The festive opening on July 1st which attracted over fifty students, artists and others featured a jazz tribute from Erika Lakatos, a Hungarian-American jazz singer and Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, Jr., jazz pianist. The exhibit is called Motel, American Night Photographs and is the work of Shandor Hassan, a New York based artist and a Fulbright Scholar in residence in Budapest.

Welcoming the audience were the Corner Director, Erika Sólyom and the U.S. Embassy Press Attaché, Jan Krc. The Director of the Gallery, György Orbán introduced the photographer who shared his Fourth of July memories from childhood. The quintessential American scenes depicted in Mr. Hassan’s photos provided an evocative background to the celebration of America’s birthday.
