On the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the U.S. Embassy and the Hungarian Red Cross organized a blood drive to honor the victims and to commemorate the National Day of Service and Remembrance.

Answering the call posted on the Embassy Facebook page earlier, close to 80 people - U.S. citizens residing here or just visiting, as well as Hungarian citizens - joined Ambassador Kounalakis and members of the Embassy community in giving blood. Television personality and Hungarian Red Cross blood donation advocate Krisztina Bombera also participated in the event.

In the days and weeks ahead, Americans will pay tribute to those who lost their lives during 9/11 and will find ways to help within their own communities in the spirit of service and remembrance.

The Budapest blood drive was supported by Starbucks and Burger King.
