Chargé Levine Visits Debrecen

As a part of the Public Affairs Budapest outreach plan, Chargé d’Affaires Jeffrey Levine visited Debrecen on September 10, 2009 where he met with students of Fazekas High School and delivered remarks on U.S. study opportunities and U.S. Embassy activities. He also called attention to the importance of tolerance in light of the recent attacks on Hungary’s Roma minority. Then he answered questions from the students ranging from what it takes to become a diplomat to his impressions about Hungary.

After his visit to the school, he had lunch with the city’s Cultural Affairs Officer, with the Director of the Debrecen Cultural Center and with the head of the local American Corner. The Chargé was presented by the city with a renewed Memorandum of Understanding, which provides funding for the Corner for an indefinite period of time.
