Honoring the Memory of 9/11 by Giving Back to the Community

The U.S. Embassy staff participated in a successful blood drive organized by the Hungarian Red Cross as part of the effort to commemorate the eighth anniversary of 9/11. Embracing the American tradition of community service, President Obama designated September 11 as the National Day of Service and Remembrance to encourage Americans to reach out to others and give back to their community.

After giving blood himself, Chargé d’Affaires Jeffrey Levine attended a 9/11 commemoration at the headquarters of the Hungarian National Disaster Relief Agency where he spoke to about 350 firemen and civil defense personnel reminding them that Hungarian and American men and women are fighting the Taliban and Al Qaida in Afghanistan to make sure that that country is never again used as a staging ground for another terrorist attack as it was in 2001.
