First Hungarian to Receive State Department Alumni Award

Dr. István Sértő-Radics, State Alumni Member was presented with a State Department Alumni of the Month award by Chargé Jeffrey Levine on Thursday, December 10th at the U.S. Embassy in Budapest for his dedication to public service, his support of minority and human rights and for his promotion of mutual understanding. Dr. Sértő-Radics is the first Hungarian to be so honored.
He is an alumnus of both the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program and the Fulbright Visiting Scholar program. His professional service has evolved from family doctor, to small town mayor, to EU representative. The honoree has created a model for ethnic coexistence in poor areas. Accepting the award he emphasized that his program became successful in Uszka because of his absolute tolerance of minorities, positive actions towards the poor regardless of their ethnicity and zero tolerance of antisocial behavior.
After the award ceremony, Public Affairs hosted a lunch joined by Dr. Tamás Bazsa, Fulbright Board member from the Ministry of Education and Prof. László Vass, PhD., President of Budapest College of Communication and Business and President of the Fulbright Association.
