Ambassador Hosts End of Year Media Roundtable

On December 11, 2008, Ambassador April Foley met with representatives of the Hungarian media, including all the national dailies, several weeklies, three TV companies, a number of internet news sites and two news wire agencies. The hour long event gave the Ambassador a chance to highlight the accomplishments of her tenure in Budapest.

She noted the recent Hungarian entry into the Visa Waiver Program, the smooth operation of the ESTA, progress on the Táncsics property exchange, and the coming of the first C-17 to the Pápa air base. The Ambassador reassured her audience that despite the upcoming change in U.S. administrations, the excellent bilateral relationship will continue. She was also asked about her work in promoting stronger U.S.-Hungarian commercial ties.

In closing, the Ambassador acknowledged the 60th anniversary of the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and made a special plea for everyone to promote respect for human rights, dignity and freedom.
