Introduction of paperless I-94W process for Visa Waiver Program travelers
Summer 2010, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will begin using a paperless I-94W process for Visa Waiver Program (VWP) travelers at all airports, thereby eliminating the paper I-94W form. By the end of the summer 2010, VWP travelers will no longer have a paper I-94W stapled to their passports. Instead, the period of admission will be written into a stamp in their passport.
At this time, no changes are being made to the paper I-94 form for non-VWP travelers. Travelers admitted to the United States by methods other than under the VWP will continue to complete I-94 paper forms on the plane, give half of the form to the CBP officer at the POE, and retain half of the form to hand in when they depart the United States.
If you returned home with your Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Form I-94 (white) or Form I-94W (green) Departure Record in your passport, it is possible that your departure was not recorded properly. If you do not take steps to correct this oversight, you may experience difficulty on your next trip to the United States.
