On January 30, 2008, Ambassador Foley opened the orientation session of newly-arrived American Fulbright grantees with welcoming remarks underlining the continued vitality of this flagship U.S.-Hungarian academic exchange program.
She noted that over the past year, the Hungarian government had increased its financial contribution to the bilateral Commission and assisted in finding excellent new quarters for its offices, fulfilling promises made by the Hungarian Minister of Education and Culture when he signed the new bilateral agreement in early 2007. The U.S. side continued its strong support of the Commission in addition to its financial contribution with additional programs and Embassy outreach for both current Fulbrighters and the robust alumni association. (Since its inception in Hungary 30 years ago, the Fulbright program has brought some 900 American scholars, students, artists, and scientists to Hungary, and an equivalent number of Hungarians to America, for research, teaching, and joint projects that enrich both societies.)
After the introduction, the Ambassador met the new arrivals and toured the Commission's new offices that also include the EducationUSA Advising Center and the Computer Based Test Center.
