Embassy Hosts Roundtable on U.S. Presidential Primaries with Veteran Campaigner and Analyst
Mr. Joseph Grandmaison, a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Export-Import Bank, and a life-long observer and participant in American elections, on October 29, 2007 conducted a fascinating roundtable on the upcoming U.S. presidential elections for members of the Hungarian media who will be covering this event in the coming year. Also present were representatives of several Hungarian think tanks with an interest in U.S. politics.
Spicing his presentation with humor and vignettes from his own experience, Mr. Grandmaison presented an in-depth explanation of the American electoral process focusing on the primary elections where the two major parties select their presidential candidates. Grandmaison clarified some of the complex aspects of this process, replying to the thoughtful questions of his audience with the insights acquired in his own campaign for governor, and as advisor to presidential candidates over many years. As he is acquainted with many of this year’s political candidates, he was able to shed light on their approach to campaigning and the issues likely to be debated in the coming presidential contest.
Mr. Grandmaison was also in Budapest to attend the European Regional Emergency Management and Response Conference sponsored by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency.
