Training Program Helps Promote U.S. as a Study Abroad Destination

Ambassador Foley has engaged over 40 high school and university classes throughout Hungary on the value of spending a term of study in America. To assist the Ambassador’s efforts, the Public Affairs Section funded a one-day training program on April 15, 2008 to promote study in the USA. The course, conducted by trainers from the Institute of International Education (IIE), brought together a total of 40 Hungarian university international relations officers, student advisors, and American Corner directors and staff from all over the country.

Ambassador Foley opened the day with remarks that recognized the important role they play in promoting study abroad, especially in overcoming concerns about visas and finding funding for a study abroad experience in the U.S. She underlined that Hungarian students on U.S. campuses act as citizen ambassadors for Hungary, encouraging American students to visit their homeland. Upon their return, these same Hungarian students are the best advertisement for their peers who are thinking about study in the U.S., but need encouragement.
