Documents Required in Support of a Visa Application
All applicants must submit certain personal documents such as passports, birth certificates, police certificates, and other civil documents, as well as evidence that they will not become public charges of the United States. All applicants will be informed of the documents needed for the visa application.
Medical Examination
Before the issuance of an immigrant visa, every applicant, regardless of age, must undergo a medical examination. Examinations must be conducted by a Consulate-approved doctor. Costs for such examinations must be borne by the applicant. The fee of medical examinations is $100 for adults and $50 for minors, or the equivalent in Hungarian Forints. For more information, please visit our Medical Examination and Vaccination Information page.
DNA Testing
The U.S. State Department is implementing worldwide new procedures for the collection of DNA samples for immigrant visa classifications. More details on the procedure are available on our DNA Sampling Process page.
Immigrant Visa Fee
All immigrant visa applicants must appear at the consular section for a personal interview. The fee for applying for an immigrant visa depends on the requested service. This non-refundable fee is either paid in advance to the National Visa Center (if the petition was filed in the United States) or must be paid on the day of the immigrant visa interview at the Embassy.
Effective July 13, 2010, immigrant visa fees will change to a tiered system with separate fees for different immigrant visa categories. The adjusted fees are based on the cost-of-service study to determine direct and indirect costs to the U.S. Government of providing consular services. Some fees will increase, some others will decrease.
Applicants at the Embassy will have to pay the fees in effect on the day they apply. Applicants whose fees are collected by NVC, both prior to or after July 13, 2010, will be required to pay only the fees in effect on the day they are billed. Applicants billed by NVC before July 13, 2010 will not be required to pay the difference between the old and the new fees.
You can review the new fees on the web site of the U.S. Department of State.
