Preventing Gender Violence: Embassy Seeks Broad Participation during 16 Days of Activism
In response to Secretary Rice's request to mark November 25-December 10 as 16 Days Against Gender Violence, Ambassador Foley visited the Hungarian NGO Women For Kaposvár on November 13, 2007. Together with Minister of Welfare and Labor Mónika Lamperth, the Ambassador outlined the joint activities that the Embassy and the Hungarian government will conduct from November 26-30 to help to prevent and treat this social problem. The Ambassador praised the women's group for their voluntary, charitable work and promised to provide further details on the upcoming visit of American experts to Kaposvar's Domestic Violence Crisis Center.
The Ambassador also visited with a high school class, encouraging students to consider study in the U.S., toured the Kaposvár University campus with Rector László Babinszky, suggesting corporate funding possibilities for graduate exchange programs, and emphasized the importance of transparency in attracting more investment to Kaposvár in her meeting with Mayor Károly Szita.
