Hungarian Baseball Player Returns From Spring Training in the U.S.

Ambassador Foley met with Hungarian baseball player Dénes Simonyi on 16 June in her embassy office.  Mr. Simonyi recently returned from three months in the United States where he was recruited to attend “Spring Training” with the Saint Louis Cardinals organization of Major League Baseball (MLB).

Mr. Simonyi’s trip was highly successful, as he was invited to remain in the U.S. after the beginning of the baseball season to play in the Cardinals rookie organization.  He also worked closely with Cardinals player Yadier Molina, widely regarded as one of the best catchers in MLB.

During their meeting Mr. Simonyi presented an official MLB baseball to the Ambassador, signed by himself and the legendary Cardinal pitcher Al Hrabosky.  Ambassador Foley congratulated Dénes on his success and encouraged him to pass along his experiences and skills to his fellow Hungarian players.
