Photo Requirements

For digital photos used with the DS-160 form
The DS-160 image file may be produced by acquiring an image with a digital camera or by digitizing a paper photograph with a scanner.
- Dimensions: Image pixel dimensions must be in a square aspect ratio (meaning the height must be equal to the width). Minimum acceptable dimensions are 600 pixels (width) — 600 pixels (height). Maximum acceptable dimensions are 1200 pixels (width) — 1200 pixels (height).
- Color: Images must be in color (24 bits per pixel) in sRGB color space (common output of most digital cameras).
- File Format: Images must be in the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) file interchange format (JFIF).
- File Size: Images must be less than or equal to 240 kilobytes.
- Compression: The image may need to be compressed in order for it to be under the maximum file size. The compression ratio used should be less than orequal to 20:1.
Composition
- Full face photo, taken within the past six months.
- The applicant should not be looking down or to either side.
- If possible, the ears should be exposed.
- Applicants are advised not to wear sunglasses, other eyewear that detracts from the face, or head coverings (hats, scarves or veils).

For printed photos
Photo Size

The photograph should measure 5 cm square with the head centered in the frame.

The photo must be in color, and taken against a white or off-white background.

Please note that the photo size requirement is NOT the same as the standard Hungarian passport photo.
Photo appearance

Full face photo, taken within the past six months.

The applicant should not be looking down or to either side.

Applicants are advised not to wear sunglasses, other eyewear that detracts from the face, or head coverings (hats, scarves or veils).
If the uploaded photo doesn’t meet the requirements or the upload process wasn’t successful, visa photos can be taken in the waiting room of the Consular Section. The fee is 1,000 HUF for 4 photos. Payment can be made in Hungarian Forint only. Please note that the photo machine cannot make change, so please bring the exact amount. The machine accepts both coins and notes.
