Call for Applications for the Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship Summer Institute
January 13, 2010
The U.S. Embassy in Budapest is seeking applications from ambitious 16-18 year-old Hungarian students with fluent English to be part of the 3-4 week long Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship Summer Institute in the U.S., June-late August, 2010. All program costs are funded by the U.S. State Department.
Fostering relationships among the younger generations of Europeans and Americans from different ethnic and religious groups, this Institute will include discussions of global issues of common interest, leadership and media training, collaborative project development, community service, educational travel, and plans for follow-on activities.
The program will enable teenagers to participate in an exchange program in the United States that focuses on the global issues that European and American youth face on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Students will participate in a variety of activities such as training sessions, workshops, community-based programs, study tours, and cultural events, and work together to prepare a joint project that presents and promotes the stated goals and objectives of the Institute.
Nominees should have a strong interest in learning more about the transatlantic relationship, the role of a free press in a democracy, and an interest in public or community service. They should have strong academic aptitude, and personal qualities such as maturity, strong social skills, and open-mindedness. The ideal applicant should have had no prior travel or study opportunities in the U.S., and should be committed to continue his/her studies at his/her high school or enroll to a university in the 2010-2011 academic year.
Applications with a CV and a letter of motivation should be sent to summerinstitute@usembassy.hu. Deadline: March 1, 2010
