As part of her 2008 media outreach effort, Ambassador April Foley conducted an on the record media roundtable on February 1 with Hungarian journalists covering foreign affairs.
The Ambassador’s opening remarks gave the media representatives an outline of her policy goals for the rest of the year as well as highlighting President Bush’s State of the Union address. Representing all political persuasions, the four national daily papers, several radios and news services, weekly magazines, and the country’s largest daily tabloid, Blikk, all questioned the Ambassador on a far ranging set of issues including visas, energy independence, Kosovo, U.S. elections, and economic questions. The journalists were especially interested in European dependence on Russia energy resources; is America ready for a woman or African-American President?; and what should be the key factor in improving the investment climate in Hungary?
