Florida Air National Guard Working in Szolnok
On July 29, 2008, the first of two scheduled detachments from the Florida Air National Guard’s 202nd Red Horse Squadron arrived at Ferihegy airport. This is an air force construction unit with a wide range of construction capability. Each detachment will spend two weeks in Hungary, and will conduct a series of upgrades and construction projects at the Peace Support Training Center in Szolnok.
The projects will benefit exercises and training which take place at the base, and provide this unit with a valuable training opportunity and the chance to build and maintain strong relationships with an important NATO ally. The team had been underway, via C-130 military aircraft, for 3 days, and were delighted to be on the ground in Hungary. Many of the squadron members work in construction fields as civilians, and then use their expertise when called to military duty. An advance team has been in Hungary for the past week finalizing plans and purchasing construction materials.
