U.S. Embassy Commemorates the 5th Anniversary of the Terrorist Attacks in 2001

On the evening of September 11, 2006, the Embassy held a gala Hungarian premiere of Oliver Stone’s “World Trade Center” in Budapest’s fine old movie palace “Uránia”. The about 400 invited guests included representatives from about 85 of the countries who lost citizens on 9/11 and from many of the countries who have supported the international community’s war on terror. Also in attendance were representatives of Arab and majority Muslim countries, high level officials from the Hungarian government and numerous military and fire and rescue team representatives from the city of Budapest.

In her presentation Ambassador April H. Foley applauded Hungary’s recent decision to send a Provisional Reconstruction Team to Afghanistan, as well as border guards and medical experts to Lebanon. She praised the work of emergency workers, firemen, police officers and military personnel in continuing the battle to protect our democratic freedoms. Ambassador Foley asked the audience to observe a moment of silence to commemorate those lost on September 11.
