Application Procedures

Prior to the visa interview:

  1. Schedule an appointment via the appointment system or walk-in. Refer to our Scheduling a Visa Interview page for more information.

  2. Complete and print the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF DS-156) and take the completed form with you to the interview.

  3. Males between ages 16 and 45 must also fill out and submit a Supplemental Form (DS-157).

  4. All applicants and their family members who apply for one of the following visas must fill out the Contact information and work history questionnaire (DS-158),:
    • F (regular academic or language study)
    • M (nonacademic or vocational studies)
    • J (exchange programs, research or teaching fellowships, medical studies, au-pairs, etc.)

  5. Pay the $131 visa processing fee in equivalent HUF at the Hungarian Foreign Trade Bank (MKB). You must keep your receipt and attach it to your application form. For a list of MKB branches, please visit the web site of the MKB Bank.

    All non-immigrant visa applicants must pay the $131 visa processing fee with exception to the following visa categories:
    • A, G, C2, C3 and NATO visa applicants.
    • J visas which are sponsored and funded by the U.S. Department of State or USAID.
    • Persons issued a replacement visa when the original visa did not adhere properly to the passport or other travel document, or is otherwise defective through no fault of the applicant.
    • Persons who are continuing a visa case that has been in process for less than one year.

  6. Take one picture that according to the specifications in the photo requirements page. Please note that the photograph must have been taken within six months of the date of the visa interview.
