Application Procedures

Last Updated on 04/12/2012

Prior to the visa interview:

  1. Complete the online Non-Immigrant Visa Application (DS-160). Print the confirmation page and bring it with you to the visa interview.
  2. Schedule an appointment via the appointment system. Refer to our Scheduling a Visa Interview page for more information.
  3. Complete the online BYREX waybill.
All applicants approved for a visa will receive their passports through a courier service arranged by the Embassy approximately 2-3 days after the interview.

Please visit the Byrex website and fill out the form. You must print the waybill and take to the visa interview. If you are not able to print the waybill, please write down the waybill’s number from the upper right corner under the bar code and take it with you to your interview.

If you provide your email address in the Consignee section, we will send the waybill via email for you to print later.  We will also inform you of the date of delivery via e-mail.

The courier service fee is 1,800 HUF and is payable at the time the passport is delivered.
  4. Non-immigrant visa application processing fees (per person):

Pay the $160 or $190 visa processing fee in equivalent HUF at the Hungarian Foreign Trade Bank (Magyar Külkereskedelmi Bank). You must keep your receipt and attach it to your application. For a list of MKB branches, please visit the MKB Bank's web site.

All non-immigrant visa applicants must pay the visa processing fee with the exception of the following visa categories:
    • A, G, C-2, C-3 and NATO visa applicants.
    • J visas which are sponsored and funded by the U.S. Department of State or USAID.
    • Persons issued a replacement visa when the original visa did not adhere properly to the passport or other travel document, or is otherwise defective through no fault of the applicant.
    • Persons who are continuing a visa case that has been in process for less than one year.
  5. If you are unable to upload a photograph during the DS-160 online application process, you must submit a printed photograph that meets the requirements along with the DS-160 confirmation page. If the confirmation page includes your photo image, you do not need to bring a separate photo to the interview.

Re-apply for a Visa:

Applicants who have been refused a non-immigrant visa are strongly discouraged from re-applying until their situation has improved and they can demonstrate stronger ties to Hungary or another country of residence. Until then, it is highly improbable that an applicant who was recently refused would be issued a visa after a second interview. For more information, please visit our Re-apply for a Visa and FAQ pages.
